Drusilla Cole - about me
I have spent the majority of my working life teaching for the University of The Arts, London - primarily on the BA ( Hons) Surface Design course at the London College of Printing or London College of Communication as it is now known, plus for the last 12 years I was a tutor on the MA Design Studies course at Central St. Martins. I took early retirement in 2009.
My inspiration tends to be from places or people that have an emotional effect on me. For instance, I was very moved by the book and film ' Touching The Void' which documents the traumatic adventures of Joe Simpson and Simon Yates when they attempted to climb Siula Grande Mountain in Peru. I created some collagraphs based on elements of their story.
Textiles have been part of my life for a long time - and I dye and paint or screen-print my original designs onto 100% silk georgette to create fabulous floaty scarves. These designs are inspired by vintage ceramics.
I have published four books to date:-
'1000 Patterns', published by A & C Black 2003
'Patterns, New Surface Design', published by Laurence King 2006
'Textiles Now',published by Laurence King 2007
'The Pattern Sourcebook', published by Laurence King 2009
Since moving to a busy small town in South Shropshire, I have found time to explore and enjoy printmaking, natural dyeing and knitting and lately I have enjoyed revisiting and expoloring polymer clay.
