My Artists & Altered books

I am involved with Altered and Artists Books which have developed out of my love of paper, collage and using a scalpel, glue and scissors.

My latest book features the words of US country singer Marty Robbins ballad 'El Paso' which was released in 1959 - and was a big hit. I was very moved by the words and decided to make a book using illustrations based on pictures in my vintage Buffalo Bill books - also dating from the 1950s. I added a background of a painting I created in 1983 after an inspiring visit to Arizona.

This book is another 'Circus' themed star book called 'Ha Ha said the Clown'. It features original linocuts printed onto tracing paper and acetate and took ages!

For another artists book on the theme of 'Circus'  I chose to make a star book with three star sections, using sturdy card . I drew the illustrations in pen and painted them in afterwards.

My Altered Book is intended for the Regenerator 11: altered book project at the Bower Ashton Library, Part of Bristol University. The book will be on permanent display in the Special Collections room at UWE from September 2010.
